I begin with an apology. In October (the last time I posted here) I said that it would be my purpose on the blog to speak of the things that are going on around Sherwood. OCTOBER! Today is May Day! I apologize, and commit myself to being a more frequent contributor to the web site. Again, I express my appreciation to our youth minister, Brandon Owens, for his efforts to continue to develop the site, and to our secretaries, Gail, Donna and Joyce, for coming alongside in keeping the newsletter up to date as well as loading the sermon recordings to the site.
Since October: We’ve begun to add to a building fund (present fund balance $189,000.00+) as we zero in on our planning strategy for fund raising and construction scheduling. We’ve continued to meet on Monday nights to enjoy a meal together and go about the work of card writing, visiting and praying. Many Monday nights have included Bible studies, counseling sessions, work in the clothing ministry and care package preparation for the Magi project and our college students who are away from home. We have presented to the congregation a “challenge budget” for 2014 that requires a $16,000.00+ contribution each week. We’ve welcomed a new ministry staff member and family with the addition of Adam Marshall, his wife Dianna and their three daughters Danielle, Addysen and Caydence. Adam will be working as education and young families minister. We’ve had memorial services for many of the “stalwarts” of our church family as they each have graduated to their heavenly home. Most recently, our youth group have had success at 3 Bible Bowl competitions and the North Texas Leadership Training Conference.
Presently: We are involved in selecting additional deacons to serve this growing church. We hope to present these names to the congregation on May 11 and have the installation on May 18. We continue to have many opportunities to minister to the community through our food pantry and the Clothes Closet as well as our benevolence ministry assistance program. The youth ministry is involved in end of school activities, summer planning (which includes camps, work camps locally and mission work camp in Arizona) and local activities with other congregations in the area.
In the near future: Two possibilities still on the “drawing board” are a “Science and the Bible” seminar with Dr. Kirt Martin of Lubbock Christian University and a “Stronger Marriage Workshop” presented by Trey and Lea Morgan of Childress, Texas. The details and dates of both of these are still being discussed. Stay “tuned” to this site for those details.
So you see: Just because I haven’t posted, doesn’t mean nothing is going on. This is a “beehive of activity” every day. And a lot is going on in the background. And we thank God for the many opportunities He makes available to us every day.
Come join us: We like to say, “If you’re looking for a church home, you’ve found it! Welcome Home!
